Church Fathers

Irenaeus (Against Heresies V.24) reads the dragon's casting down as the definitive defeat inaugurated by the cross and consummated at the end. Origen (On First Principles I.5) connects this to Luke 10:18, arguing the fall began at the crucifixion and concludes at the parousia. Augustine (City of God XI.13, XX.7) agrees that Satan's fall is a staged process, inaugurated, ongoing, and final. Tertullian is more cosmic, reading the dragon's three-stage fall as the definitive unmasking of evil.
